Featherweight: Limited Gold Vinyl LP

Fast-emerging British singer-songwriter and guitarist Rosie Frater-Taylor is widely regarded as a virtuoso guitarist and a vocalist with a powerful emotional range and depth.

Her 2021’s self-produced album ‘Bloom’ garnered in excess of 3 million streams, was nominated at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards and made revered US radio station KCRW’s Albums Of The Year list. She played over 60 shows across Europe with her trio in 2022 before heading into the studio to write her new album, capturing the band’s energy and chemistry.

Drawing influence from the likes of PJ Harvey, through Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, to the rockier roster - where John Mayer, Meshell Ndegeocello, St Vincent and Madison Cunningham hold court, Frater-Taylor’s upcoming album ‘Featherweight’ will be released on Cooking Vinyl in Feb 2024. The record marks a stylistic shift, deftly blurring the boundaries between rock, alt pop, neo soul, new-school jazz and folk whilst tackling an array of themes including self-reflection, vulnerability and anger. Lead single ‘Hold The Weight’, an ethereal, angular guitar jam suffused with rage, describes the feeling when no amount of words can bear the burden of the intensity of emotion attached to them.

Initially given drum lessons by her father at the age of 8, the native Londoner went on to pick up a variety of instruments (often lying around the house), including the guitar, ukulele and bass. She spent her early teens discovering the vast and varied record collection of her parents, an eclectic mix of artists : Zero 7, Tania Maria, Seal, Pat Metheny and more. She began exploring her own love of songwriting, jazz and alternative harmony studying in her youth at both the Roundhouse and then Royal Academy Of Music.

“If you want something done right, do it yourself” : Rosie set off laying out multi-layered guitar-based demos on Cubase at the age of 16. These would eventually become her self-produced debut album 'On My Mind' (2018), a unique collection of songs which garnered praise from BBC Radio 1’s Abbie McCarthy, Becca Stevens “badass”, with Jazzwise Magazine hailing her “one to watch”.
